Scans_Daily: What Did It Get You To Bu?

In schmevil post many have been talking about how they got back into comics or how scans_daily led them to buy new things.

So what were the books scans_daily led you to buy? And how much more money do you spend on comics after you joined then before?

Fell
Batman: Long Halloween
Batman: Dark Victory
Nextwave (when it was ongoing)
Transmetropolitan (all vols)
Authority (vol 1 and 2)
Superman/Batman (Leob run)
Superman/Batman annual
Supergirl Adventures in the 8th grade (ongoing)
Tiny Titians (ongoing)
Stranger in Paradise
Rapunzel's Revenge
Marvel Adventures - Avengers, Iron Man, Super Heroes, and the Power Pact specials both in trades and as on goings.
Batman - Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader
Batman - Paul Dini's run
Captain America - White (issue 0)
Captain America - Red, White, and Blue
Superman - Birthright
Batman Black and White - vol 1 and 2
Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle
Iron Man: Enter the Mandragon
Sandman - all volumes, plus Endless Nights
Thor, vol 1 (JMS run)
Fables (all volumes)
Justice League Unlimited (comic)
Justice League (DVD sets)

Webcomics I found through scans_daily:
Red String
Shortpacked
Order of the Stick
Questionable Content
Doctor McNinja
Wonderella

Things I bought because I have to post scans and tell scans_daily about:
Batman: Digital Justice
Space Ghost (trade)

I think there might be more but I can't think of them at the moment. I'd been big into comics in the 90s but dropped my supscription around 98. Scans_daily helped get me back into comics.
I think I spend at least 35 dollars a month at the comic book shop were before I was spending 0-3 dollars.

scans_daily got me to buy the notion that Bruce Wayne is a dick - and just how far Batdickery could be taken.

Oh man...

Off the top of my head? ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, BLUE BEETLE, BOOSTER GOLD, ULTIMATE X-MEN (a lot of Ultimate books, frankly), Y: THE LAST MAN, X-FACTOR, FABLES, JACK OF FABLES, STRANGERS IN PARADISE, the "New Krypton" storyline in the Superman books...I can't even remotely begin to list everything. To be fair, a lot of stuff S_D pimped out the most were books I was already reading. :)

I saw the cover for Digital Justice and just thought "That looks terrible".

Is it?

One of the trade paperbacks of Fables--only got interested in buying it recently.

Batman: Contagion.
Batman: No Man's Land
Authority (vol 1)
Marvel Adventures

It also brought to my attention that there were Doctor Who comics at all, so I've been buying whichever trades of that that I could find in the United States.

There are likely many, many other things that I bought due to scans_daily, but those are just the first things to spring to mind. Oh, and the Superdictionary--I managed to track it down and buy it after seeing so many scans from it.

OH GOD YES the Superdictionary. I bought a copy too, for the same reason.

And that's terrible.

Empowered, Hellboy, Pride of Baghdad, We3, all of Fables, some other odds and ends. Previously I barely spent any money on comics at all, maybe 20 bucks in a year? In a good year.

I used to stand in front of the comic shelves and go "Buh?" because I was overwhelmed with the choice and didn't know what was good. Then I started reading the comm and bought comics I'd seen there and recognized.

Now I'll probably go back to buying next to nothing, reviews just don't cut it for me. :/

So let me preface my post with a bit of history: I'm from a town with now Local Comic Book Store, very few (very closeted) comic fans, and very little to do with comics at all. The only reason why I got into comics is (ashamedly) I watched the Teen Titans TV show and went on a forum for it. There, lady_timedramon would mention something like "Well, in the comics Starfire..." and I thought that everything she said was really cool so I started researching about the comics. This led me to Titans Tower, and eventually, Scans_daily.
"Holy crap!" I thought to myself, "I didn't know there were so many comics out there!" I then lurked and lurked and my knowledge of comics grew and so did my collection. My collection which I never would have bought without scans_daily.

Also, my collection is very humble. XD Months in between comic buying, remember!

All the Blue Beetle trades (except the last one, I'm broke. XD)with supplemental single issues.
Man Hunter up until the hiatus!
Secret Six Mini + ongoing.
Bunch of BoP
Superman/Batman scattered single issues.
Wonder Woman!
Teen Titans trades from the John's era.
Spiderman Loves Mary Jane
A few trades of Runaways
DC Encyclpaedia (It's huge)

I've also helped buy (for my friends):
Nearly all of the Fables collection (she's having trouble finding some trades. XD)
Marvel Enchyclopaedia
Bunch of Y! The Last Man stuffs.

Things I introduced to the community:
Wonderella (I was seriously the first two posts of Wonderella goodness. XD It was a proud moment for me)

* Doctor Thirteen: Architecture and Morality
* Mouse Guard
* Hellboy
* B.P.R.D
* Fables
* Nextwave
* Various Wildstorm titles (my only semi-regular vacation into the superhero genre, which I would have ignored completely had it not been for scans_daily)
* Uzumaki
* Criminal
* Proof
* Umbrella Academy

Where to start? Briefly: a great many trade paper compilations and a few hardcover, as well as weird one-offs like BIZARRO. Oh and the Marvel & DC superhero cookbooks for my admittedly massive cookbook collection, but that is my other brain-eating hobby.

Also making the long-distance acquaintance of several admired professionals. And knowing that "it's never just you." Priceless.

scans_daily is indirectly responsible for every single comic book I own.

At some point, I was linked to a post showing scans of Luke Cage kicking Doom's ass. I poked around the community, thought about how much I loved the X-Men animated series when I was a little kid, and bought some comics.

It is directly responsible for me picking up Thunderbolts, and is responsible for me having a lot of things on my list to pick up whenever I get the money to.

EX MACHINA IS AMAZING

It's also a series that I think was almost exclusively posted by me, so hoorah for me.

Got the first three Birds of Prey trades by Gail and plan on getting all of them.

Thanks to Bluefall's posts I am tempted to start getting Wonder Woman once I start my summer job again, as well as several other books found on scans_daily.

V for Vendetta
Watchmen
Tharg's Furtureshocks
The Authority
Transmetrapolitain (Which I still need to find the last couple of books of)

And that's all the comics I own. All bought after previewing on scans_daily.

Oh! Except the Games Workshop stuff I bought years back.

ETA: And Nextwave! How on earth did I forget Nextwave?

Ocassional issues of Teen Titans
Anytime Booster of Deadpool guest starred in an another series I found out from Scans Daily and went and bought it. My lcs doesn't have much that isn't specifically ordered...

Genius (I'm curious)
Secret Six

Scans Daily made it fun to be a comic fan.

Lesse here...

Irredeemable Ant-Man, Blue Beetle, The All-New Atom, The Five Fists of Science, The Order, Brit, Manhunter, Annihilation (and as a result, Annihilation Conquest, Nova, and Guardians of the Galaxy), 52, Secret Six... hell, I'm sure there's more, but my comics are currently in disorder.

Not to mention the long list of things I still have "to buy" that I found out about in this community.

The ones I can remember:

Incredible Hercules. I bought the first trade based on what I saw on SD. It turns out, I didn't like the book, so I haven't continued collecting it, but Marvel got $15 from me thanks to SD.

Blue Beetle. The only reason I gave BB a chance was because of SD's posts, I've been reading it since issue #25.

Nextwave. I was all set to ignore this series until SD. Thanks to SD, I bought both trades as well as issues #9 and #10.

Transhuman. I only knew about Jonathan Hickman's series because it was on SD. I ended up buying issues #1, #2, and the trade.

If you count web comics, I read Wonderella regularly now because of SD.

All the comics I own I've bought since July, when I found s_d:

Watchmen
V for Vendetta
The entire Sandman series
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Batman - Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader
A stack of old Romance comics

What I'm going to buy because of s_d when I have the money:
Batman - Dini's run
Anything else I would have found because of scans_daily

So yeah. Pretty much all my pocket-money.

The comm actually got me to look at DC stuff, which was basically unheard of as I grew up reading Marvel for years.

And mmm, Ex Machina, how I love you. Anyone read the latest issue as I think I'm a bit behind.

The latest issue is the meta one, which was genuinely laugh out loud hilarious.

Then, there's a special in March, I think, and the story continues in April. Pherson is on the cover for May.

I deal mostly with trades (guessing living outside America can have that effect) but the ones I have I can honestly say has been directly caused by seeing them on by S_D, with some exceptions (that I'll just omit from the list). These are the trades I have here with me (I have more at my parents house):

Marvel:
-Runaways (up till whedon)
-FF: Unthinkable
-the FF deluxe hardcover that covers what happens after Unthinkable (just called vol 2)
-Incredible Hercules: Secret Invasion
-Ultimate Spider-Man: Clone Saga
-Inhumans vol 1
-The Hood: Blood from Stones
-Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness
-Thunderbolts: Justice, Like Lightning...
-The Sentry vol 1
-NextWave Agents of HATE
-Marvels
-Wolverine: Get Mystique
-LiveWires
-The immortal Iron Fist
-Fantastick Four 1602
-Young Avengers
-Ultimates 1 & 2
-Marvel 1602
-the last Astonishing X-Men trade
-Annihilaton

DC/Vertigo:
-The Dark Knight Returns
-Batman: Arkham Asylum
-Batman: Jokers Laugh
-Superman and the Legion Of Super-heroes
-Villains United
-Ex Machina: The First Hundred Days
-We3
-Y The Last Man

Other:
-The Tick The Complete Edlund

And of course there's many many titles I've found on S_D that I plan to buy once I get the money.
So yeah S_D has been a great way to find new titles.

From a glance at my shelves, here are trade paperbacks I purchased that I wouldn't have looked twice at were it not for scans_daily:

The Immortal Iron Fist vol. 1
Superman/Batman: Saga of the Super Sons
Mini Marvels vol. 1
The Order: The Next Big Thing
Whedon's entire run on the X-Men
Empowered (all volumes)
Spiderman/Human Torch
Madrox

I don't buy floppies, generally, but scans_daily even got me to buy a Matt Fraction written Punisher issue 'cause I got a few laughs at s_d from it.

I'll miss the community and look forward to seeing where the principals reform.

The Order: Next Right Thing

I reread that a few months ago in one sitting and was really impressed with how good it was. Really, #4 is fab.
